Hi Guys & Dolls! I want to start off by saying thank you for helping me reach 100 followers recently on Bloglovin'. I love you!
Today's post will be quite picture heavy and looonggg - as things usually go on ofmymemories - on the Ovonni 29 piece Synthetic Makeup Brush Set. I bought this off Ebay for $43 free shipping which, for the quality and fast delivery is a bargain.
The package came to me within a week as it was shipped from Sydney and the first thing that I noticed was that it reeeeekked. It literally smelt like it came straight from the factory, with this god awful chemical and paint scent all over the case itself which somehow transferred minimally onto the brushes. It took me about two days of airing the case, and a few washings of the brushes to completely get rid of the scent. Needless to say that ticked me off a bit, however, it shouldn't affect my final verdict too much.
The case itself was actually a lot more sturdier than I anticipated. I'm assuming it is mostly PU or faux leather with a cool crocodile skin design on the outside, and a smooth inner layer which is very easy to clean and sterilise. Although the case is nice quality, folding all the brushes up do cause them to bend out of shape after a while - as you can see in the above picture where hairs on the fan brush are a bit wobbly. But one should expect that when ordering cheap, synthetic brushes online.
I'm going to format my post a little differently today and give you the overall rating and review here rather than at the end as I will be going through each and every brush in this set. Reason for that is that the company itself does not print the names of what type of brush some of them are, so I'll be winging it and writing my own list for referral.
CONS include:
- the initial scent
- the lack of variety in face brushes (most of the larger brushes are for powders)
- most brushes feel like they absorb liquid and cream products a little too well, thus having product "travel" all the way to the ferrule at times
- bristles tend to clump and stick together after not washing and continued use for a week and a bit i.e. don't last long without washing
- some brushes I have no idea what use they have, but I will keep trying to find something to use them for
PROS are:
- fantastic amount of brushes for the beginner or collectors in search of reasonable to good quality brushes
- no shedding, at all (hallelujah)
- ferrules are all strongly attached to handle (unless you rigorously clean them like I did my lip brush thus sort of detaching it, easily fixable though)
- for the most part, they work very well, most pick up powders exceptionally well and others are amazing for cream products
- a nice variety of eye brushes, most of which are soft and vary in size
- easy to clean, relatively fast at drying when compared to my other synthetic brushes
- case is easy to clean
- blue tipped ends make it handy to tell when you need to clean them
And so, if you're looking for a set of nice quality brushes for cheap as chips, especially if you're a beginner and just starting out with makeup, I highly recommend this set. For pros or long time beauty lovers, you may not like the variety in this set unless you're looking for some good eye and powder brushes to add to your kit.
